Although some bias still exists regarding online degrees, in theory, individuals’ online degrees should be taken seriously if they were obtained from an accredited online university. However, individuals should be prepared to discuss the courses they took and the material they covered with future employers.
If individuals are applying to an advanced degree program at a traditional university, they should be prepared to accept that their online degrees may not transfer over. When applying to traditional programs, some bias may still be held against individuals with online degrees during the admittance process.
Nevertheless, students’ admittance into an advanced degree program from a traditional university also depends on other factors, such as the quality of the online university, online courses taken, and grades received.
