Transferring credits from one academic institution to another all depends on whether the institution where the credits were obtained is regionally accredited. While most online universities generally accept credits obtained from regionally accredited traditional universities, some traditional universities may not accept credits obtained from an online institution.
While some credits may be transferrable, others may not be - this is because most universities limit the number of credits that may be transferred. Most universities require students to obtain at least half their degree's worth of credits from them, while others may require 2/3 of their degree's worth of credits from them.
Assigning equivalent credits to credits obtained at other academic institutions is also another consideration individuals should keep in mind. In order to receive equivalent credit, students may be required to submit syllabi, past graded assignments and other materials.
Generally, if students have obtained credits from a non-accredited institution, then those credits are non-transferable under any circumstances.
